The IITs are considering to have a second round of admission(not exactly second round of councelling) to fill up seats this year. It is widely known that the IITs have increased the seat intake rapidly over the last few years owing to OBC reservations and other things. The pace at which seats have increased seems much higher than can be coped if the quality has to remain the same as the past. Also the setting up of new IITs with little or (mostly) no infrastructure to support education like IIT Rajasthan(currently operating from IITK) , IIT Hyderabad has brought the sheen down of the IIT brand. It is obvious that students would prefer to join an old college with good infrastructure and experienced teachers than an IIT which has no labs as yet!!....Just the name obviously should not be everything. There has to be a concrete reality associated with the name.

During the second round of admissions the students who have not been offered courses will be offered some courses which have been unable to fill their approved number of seats. Also the students who have been alloted a branch in an institute will be allowed to change to a branch which they prefer with the condition of availability of seats in that branch. However once an institute it alloted to a student,he can not change the institute.More details are yet to surface but Mr. Gautam Barua (Director IIT Guwahati) said"We are considering a second round of admissions.… It will not be a second round of counselling, but will be aimed at filling vacant seats."

So beware.....don't take the counselling lightly because you may not have counselling for second time if you do get a seat in an IIT and dont like the branch ant the seats of the branch you like are filled there already. ...Remain on your toes!!!!!!!!

New details are up here if you wish to research further!!!!!!
